Okay, so i just got a shepherd mix last week and he's adjusted GREAT. he loves me and my family, and opened up to us really well. I got him at a shelter and he's one and a half years old. In the morning, i take him to the park to play with other dogs and play fetch with a tennis ball. I throw the ball for about 20 min and he's really great with it. then, i take him for a calm 20 minute walk and then back to my house. we play tug of war for another thirty minutes after lunch and he's really strong. I can sense him getting tired and i let him relax while i brush him. after dinner, my family take him for a one hour walk and he seems really content. However, AT NIGHT, he turns into this crazy beast! When i walk out when it's dark, or around after 8 PM, he'll start jumping onto me and biting my arm like crazy. It doesn't hurt and i dont think hes trying to hurt me. he'll keep this up for about five minutes and then hell be running around the backyard while i'm watching him. He always picks up one of my shoes so i can chase him down to steal it back. this doens't happen during the day and ONLY AT NIGHT! what is going on??? also, he tears up the shoes all the time at night. He is an outdoor dog and we built him a nice doghouse with carpeting and a cushony bed which he enjoys. I just don't get why he's like this at night time. I'm getting him PLENTY of exercise as we do tug of war alot and he's quite mellow during the day. Why is it at night he gets all excited and anxious??? the only thing i might be doing wrong is feeding him a bit too much. He's a bit skinny and i want him to bulk up a bit. I'm feeding him about 5 cups of food per day and he weighs 49 lbs. Any advice???... Read More »
