Open Question: My dog won't play?!?!?!?!?

I would really like my dog to play. She is really boring and lays on the couch all day long! I tried to teach her to play fetch but she is almost afraid of the ball. I also put treats in a sock and she looked at me like she had no clue what is was. Maggie is pretty old but she has a lot of energy stored in her like randomly she will go crazy all over the couch so i know she could play if she knew how.
